We love us a love song at A Lavish Affair and we also love watching our couples have their first dance together as a married couple! We always find the choice of song is a great reflection of the couples personality, whether it’s a slow romantic waltz or a fun upbeat dance off! One thing we notice is unless our couple has a song that holds a special meaning it can be quite difficult to decide on a song to dance to in front of all your guests. We have chosen five of our favourite songs at the moment to give you inspiration for your first dance.
Kiss Me – Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran wrote this song for his godparent’s wedding. A long journey for them to confess their love to one another they asked if he could perform at their wedding. He felt that none of his original songs at the time suited their wedding so he penned this song. He left a tour early to fly back to London to perform at their special day. It’s a song that captures many emotions shared on a journey between two lovers and for anyone who has fallen in love with their best friend.
Just The Way You Are – Bruno Mars
We couldn’t have said it better then the man himself Bruno Mars explained, “I’m a big fan of songs like Joe Cocker’s ‘You Are So beautiful’ and Eric Clapton’s ‘Wonderful Tonight’ – songs that go straight to the point. You know, there’s no mind-boggling lyrics or twists in the story – they just come directly from the heart. And to me ‘Just The Way You Are’ is one of those songs. There’s nothing mind-blowing about it. I’m just telling a woman she looks beautiful the way she IS – and, let’s be honest, what woman doesn’t wanna hear those lyrics?!”
We can’t imagine there are many brides who don’t want to hear the words of this song and when the music kicks in it’s an easy song for your guests to join in and dance the night away!
Better Together – Jack Johnson
Jack Johnson wrote this song about for his wife. He explained that his love songs always start out for her and we think this song is the perfect light hearted fun dance to wiggle too on the dance floor for those who don’t want to go heavy on the romantic slow song!
At Last – Etta James
You can’t go past this song if you had been patiently waiting for that one person to come into your life and your search is finally over. One of those beautiful classic songs we can see our newly weds sway to surrounded by adoring family and friends. Some of the artists who have recorded this song include Cyndi Lauper, Celine Dion, Gladys Knight and Joan Osborne. Christina Aguilera and Jason Mraz have both covered it in concert. Chose the artist who’s style appeals to you most!
The Way You Look Tonight – Michael Bublé
A beautiful rendition of Fred Astaire’s song from the old movie Swing Time. We love a modern twist on an old classic. Sometimes these beautiful old tunes can seem out of place in a modern day wedding yet they are so gorgeous and so gracefully convey the message of love. With too many covers of this song to mention we could only pick one and we couldn’t pass on the romantic crooning tones of Michael Bublé’s version of The Way You Look Tonight. Blissful siggghhhhh.
As wedding planners we get into the detail and work with our couple’s to choose the most perfect songs for their wedding. Music very much assists in setting a tone, creating an ambience and can bring back a flood of memories each time you hear those songs, even after your special day is had and done.
