Keeping your wedding budget in check can be a mission! Here are a few tips to keep it in line, and how to prepare in advance to save you blowing the budget.
be realistic
Before you start planning, work out exactly how much you have to spend. If you do this after you start dreaming of all of the beautiful things and suppliers you love, realistically work out what you have, which will determine the type of wedding you can have and the suppliers you can book.
who is contributing?
Have the talk with your parents to determine exactly how much each can contribute, if any. This will give you a good idea of the total spend you have available.
break it down
If you have a planner (like us!) they will do this for you. If not, create a spreadsheet and list out and allocate how much you have for each area of your wedding e.g. the dress, transport, venue, catering, this will enable you to look for suppliers that are suitable to your spend, not ones that will be much more than you can afford.
contingency fund
We usually suggest a 10% emergency buffer, just in case. If you never use this, then that’s okay! But it’s a must have that needs to be put away for any unexpected costs that may arise before the day.
choose the important details
If you’re on a budget, you can’t focus on everything. Pick 2-3 items that are really important to you both, that will be where you focus a lot of your budget. Some of these things may include food, entertainment, the dress, the honeymoon even. List your priorities so they don’t get forgotten or missed.
