There are so many details that go into your wedding invitations and it’s important to get them just right. Here are some tips on what to write, style, and important dates to consider when designing your wedding stationery.
‘Save The Date’ cards
These aren’t a must but they will be beneficial in certain instances. We recommend sending ‘Save The Dates’ when you’re planning a destination wedding, giving your guests plenty of time to make arrangements, or if you have many travelling guests. These can be sent out as soon as you have a location and date.
Style
Invitations are a way to share a sneak peek of what is to come. We recommend either keeping them simple or having them capture the colours and style your wedding day.
Wording style
There are so many ways to write your invite information – traditional, classic, fun, quirky.. consider which style suits you.
All of the details
Remember to include all of the details your guests may need. Arrival time, ceremony start time, location, maps (if needed), parking/ transport details, dress code, accommodation options, and request dietary any requirements.
Who’s invited
Be really clear on the invite, who is invited. This will save any confusion or awkward conversations later. If you would like to offer a plus one for your invitee, write ‘& guest’ on the addressing.
Envelope addressing
This can be a really lengthy process! We recommend having your envelops printed with addresses or have a calligrapher write them for you. They will look that little bit more special.
Check and double check
Ask for a proof before the printing goes ahead and check all of the spelling and wording. It can be quite costly to fix once the printing has begun.
Have some extras
Ask your stationery printer for a few blank invites. This is great to have if you decide to add a few extra guests or have forgotten someone! It’s also nice to have a copy to keep and one that can be used in photos on the day.
Sending your invitations
We recommend sending these out 8 weeks prior, including an RSVP date of 4 weeks before your date. This will ensure you have all of your responses back in plenty of time to secure numbers at your venue.
